Ted Turner Urges: Conserve

Billionaire Ted Turner yesterday urged Massachusetts restaurateurs to join the green movement.

The former media magnate and CNN founder’s Turner Foundation is partially funding the National Restaurant Association’s “Conserve: Solutions for Sustainability.” The initiative, launched in May, helps eateries become more environmentally friendly.

Conservation is going to become a necessity because the U.S. economy and the way Americans live were built on an abundance of cheap energy, Turner said during a Boston talk moderated by local celebrity chef Todd English.

“Those days are over,” said Turner, himself a Toyota Prius hybrid-driving restaurateur. “We’re going to be in for a tough time, but that’s all the more reason to be conservation-minded.”
